Description
Two boathouses, the Union Boat Club (left) and the Nonpareil (right) are seen along the Harlem River near Dyckman Street in this 1935 photograph. In 1932 the Union Boat Club became one of the first clubs in the country to form a female crew team. Other Harlem River clubs included the First Bohemian, Lone Star, Dauntless, and Wyanoke. In 1937 Robert Moses evicted nine boathouses from “Skuller’s Row.” Reprint.
