Small marine outfits along the Hudson River fared well before the launch of the Dyckman Street ferry in 1915. In the early 1900s the region was also known for the production of watercraft. The Reliance Motor Boat Company along Spuyten Duyvil Creek produced sleek wooden speedboats. Various shipbuilders were also clustered along the eastern bank of the Harlem River in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx. Photo circa, 1910.
