Description
Swimmers disregard a “Bathing Not Allowed” sign in this 1935 image from Inwood Hill Park. In the 1890s the path of Spuyten Duyvil Creek was altered and the channel partially filled to create a Ship Canal connecting the Harlem and Hudson Rivers. In the 1930s a final section was modified, allowing marine traffic easier access to Long Island Sound. Circle Line tour boats today ply the waterway.
