Artist's Description

When the first subway pulled into the elevated Dyckman Street station on March 12, 1906 a once sleepy farming community was thrust into the twentieth century. Apartment houses, shops, bars, bowling alleys, and hotels were erected at a dizzying pace. This photograph is a view south from Nagle Avenue and Tenth Avenue in 1904.
