Children play in the shadow of the Sherman Creek Power Generating Station in this 1926 photograph. The eight-story, 62,000 square-foot, coal-burning power station of the United Electric Light & Power Company opened in 1914. The plant was decommissioned in 1970. The behemoth was demolished in 1997 after towering over Inwood for nearly a century.
