Artist's Description
This breathtaking image of Sherman Creek, along the Harlem River, in the Inwood section of northern Manhattan was captured in 1937. To the left, rising from the hill in Fort Tryon Park, is the tower of the Cloisters. Snaking across the center of the photograph is the elevated subway track of the IRT. The hulking brick structure to photo right was a Con Edison coal burning power plant.
